Good: Portuguese design
Better: impressing Paris
Red alert! The vegetables are revolting! The communiqué from their human representatives, ceramists Ana Lousada and Carlos Neto, is a radical one: “In an era of globalisation, when existential fear leads to enslavement, the revolutionary catalyst will be agriculture. The revolt is led by three ringleaders: Savoy, Savoy Leaf and Squash”, which make up this glazed feldspathic stoneware set, Feet Don’t Fail Me Now – The Revolt of the Vegetables. Lousada and Neto, who work at the Casa da Olaria studio (Porto de Mós), created it for the Aldeias do Xisto’s Agricultura Lusitana project, which “consolidates the positioning of collaborative culture between management and design”. Some of Agricultura Lusitana’s craft-design pieces – including The Revolt of the Vegetables – can be found in Paris this month (6th-10th September) at the highly respected Maison et Objet fair. The sophistication of Portuguese craftsmanship and design making an indelible international impression.
