Good: Azores sperm whale
The waters of the Azores boast a varied wildlife, where we can find between 25 and 30 species of cetaceans that seek food there and probably use the underwater geography to get their bearings during migrations. There are whales, orcas, false killer whales, grampas, dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, orangespot sardine – and sperm whales. This majestic mammal measures up to 14 and 18 metres long and weighs between 25 and 50 thousand kilos (female and male, respectively), however, Carapau de Corrida, a brand created by graphic designers Rita Faria and Tiago Couto, makes two domestic versions, Emma and Jo (in three sizes: 54 x 24, 48 x 18 and 35 x 12 cm), which are made entirely from burel from the Portuguese Burel Factory. After leaving the loom, the 100% wool fabric is boiled, making it waterproof and durable. Emma and Jo belong to the vast zoo that Carapau de Corrida manufactures and can be seen around the world at fairs, such as Maison et Objet (Paris), NY Now (New York) and Top Drawer (London). The brand gives 3% of its profits to animal welfare organisations. Chapeau!
