2020 – A year of consolidation

Once again, it was another year of achievements for TAP in 2019. It was a year of transformation, of the company being in closer contact with its customers and of real growth. Among the many milestones, I would highlight how we’ve strengthened our operation in Brazil, expansion in North America and the growth and renewal of our fleet, essential and strategic areas where we have boosted our company.

With new routes to Montreal, Canada, and Ponta Delgada-Boston, TAP now has 11 routes in North America and 82 weekly flights, which is 66 more than in 2015. This growth would not have been possible without major investment in renewing TAP’s fleet, which currently boasts over 100 aircraft. In 2019 alone, 30 NEO aircraft arrived in TAP’s hangars. With the departure of the last aircraft with outdated cabins, TAP’s long-haul fleet is now the world’s most modern, with an average age of 3.9 years, compared with 15 years old in 2018. This means that all passengers on intercontinental routes now enjoy a consistent experience, with the highest service and comfort standards, resulting in major improvements to the NPS assessment, in which customers recount their levels of satisfaction, and why they chose to travel with TAP.

In November 2019, we had already transported the same number of customers as in all of 2018. We ended 2019 with 94 destination airports and 137,000 flights a year, an increase of 13% and 25%, respectively, with a growth of 40% in revenue, compared to 2015. With the most recent bond issue attracting major institutional investors, and with the first rating assigned by international agencies, TAP is now part of exclusive group of sustainable companies within the global aviation market. These achievements are due to the work and commitment of TAP staff, whom I would like to thank, and recognised by our industry and customers, with TAP winning over 30 awards last year. I would also like to thank our customers for helping us implement our growth plan. We hope we can continue to count on your custom and that, together, we will make 2020 a year of consolidation. Have an excellent New Year!
